RUN FOR CRUSE
Once arrived in the thick of it, they mingled with the real Marathon Runners with the target of raising more than £2K. So though, as a charity, we didn't have runners in the marathon itself, we were there! You can see the alternative runners' JustGiving page here. BATH HALF-MARATHON Says Helen: "It was a fantastic day, amazing support, great weather and a really good course (and I was running next to Fearne Cotton from Radio One!!). Thanks to all of those who have supported me, financially, motivationally or both! I am already considering doing the Bristol half marathon in September for Cruse, but perhaps in fancy dress...any suggestions welcome." Chris had planned to participate, despite being treated for cancer; nevertheless had been determined to train and to run. His son, Tim, ran in his memory and to raise funds for Cruse - please click here for Tim's Justgiving page. You can see all our runners and fund-raisers, and support them, here on the JustGiving website. BIRMINGHAM HALF-MARATHON 2010 - HELEN DID IT! "Just to let you know that I completed the Birmingham Half Marathon in support of Cruse. It was a fantastic day and perfect weather!," said Helen the day after her triumph. "Thank you so much for those of you that have sponsored me…for those that haven’t, I would be very grateful for anything you can spare - please click here to visit my JustGiving web page. "Surely the fact I was up at 6.00am on a Sunday eating a banana and peanut butter sandwich is worth a few pennies?! The atmosphere on the day was fantastic! There were so many people running for charities and it was lovely to see so many charity t-shirts! It would be great if next year we could have a cluster of Cruse runners! As far as half marathons go, the course is very flat…which gives a little more incentive! Overall, a truly brilliant and well organised event, overwhelming crowd support and humbling to see so much passion and energy for runner’s chosen worthy causes. "Please join me next year! Helen continues: "I want to raise money for Cruse and hopefully encourage others to do the same - and show that you don’t have to be a proper ‘runner’ to have a go! Also I want to encourage other runs to be considered beyond the London 10k, in the hope that they will become longstanding." Helen works for Cruse as a Commissioning Manager, helping to get our locally provided bereavement services funded and on a firm footing. She comments: "Cruse is just an amazing cause and in my view invaluable… and despite being national, largely under-recognised for the difference we make to the lives of those who are bereaved. Nobody realises the extent to which a bereavement can impact someone until it happen, and with support of Cruse the effect on individual’s health can lessen dramatically. I am passionate about the links to mental health and bereavement, and consequences of unresolved grief if support is not offered at an early stage.I cannot stress enough what an incredible organisation Cruse is. So thank you for supporting me, and for helping Cruse to continue to support those who are bereaved."
