HUNGTINGDON CRUSE BAGS £700

Volunteers at Cruse Huntingdon raised an impressive £700 on Saturday 9th October by packing bags at their local supermarket. The branch, which has been adopted as the charity of the year by Sainsbury's Huntingdon, sent representatives down to the store between 10am-4pm to assist customers and chat about the work of Cruse.

Dressed in distinctive Cruse tabards they certainly made an impression, and an in-store display about the branch coupled with a simultaneous broadcast on local radio raised awareness in their local community.

The branch will be supported by fundraising events at Sainsbury's Huntingdon throughout the year, so look out for your local Cruse volunteer next time you pop out for some milk!

Wednesday 16 September 2010 saw the launch of Cruse Lambeth, a new branch of the charity’s local network and one that is proving an outstanding model of what the service can offer.

Chief Executive Debbie Kerslake, branch chair Lorraine Cardozo and volunteers were joined by the Mayor of Lambeth and representatives of local healthcare organisations for an evening of celebration and speeches.

Service and development manager Sarah Hill commented: “It was a great opportunity to celebrate the launch of a much-needed bereavement service in Lambeth. "We were really pleased that people from many different organisations were able to join us, and are looking forward to working in partnership with others as the service continues.”

Although it has been up, running and providing a vital service to the borough for a year or so, the Lambeth branch is still seeking a permanent base from which to operate. If any businesses or residents can provide facilities, or know of low cost premises available, they are urged to email Lambeth@cruse.org.uk or ring the branch on 020 8939 2532.

Volunteers and partners celebrate the successful launch of Lambeth branch of CruseA permanent base will enable Cruse’s volunteers to create a welcoming environment in which to support bereaved people, and allow them to develop further services such as a drop in centre.

Speaking at the launch, Lorraine Cardozo commented: “To date we have provided support to well over 300 bereaved people living in Lambeth. We have plenty still to do, but with the continued commitment and dedication of a fantastic group of volunteers and the support of so many of you here today, we know that the branch can only go from strength to strength in the future.”
