The following books are recommended for professionals and others who work with and support bereaved people.

Bereavement: Studies of grief in adult life

This book by Cruse life president Colin Murray Parkes recognises that there is no single solution to the problems of bereavement but that an understanding of grief can help the bereaved to realise that they are not alone in their experience. This new edition written with Holly G Prigerson has been revised and extended to take into account recent research findings on both sides of the Atlantic.

Writing in Bereavement

Writing in Bereavement is a practical creative handbook that will assist counsellors, volunteers and others in their work with bereaved adults. Writing is a powerful outlet for the emotions that accompany grief and it is therefore a valuable therapeutic tool to help those who are bereaved communicate their experiences and adjust to life after their loss. Jane Moss provides imaginative creative writing exercises for groups and individuals, using a variety of genres and literary forms and techniques.
