Dr Colin Murray Parkes is Cruse Bereavement Care’s Life President. Colin joined Cruse in 1966 after the Aberfan disaster where he worked with the local community to provide bereavement support. Shortly after this he joined the Cruse Council before being the Chair of Trustees in 1972 for 20 years. When he stepped down from this position he was awarded an OBE for his services to bereaved people and became our Life President, a role he still holds to this day.
Colin is a physiatrist and has written many books and publications about grief. He has also been involved in many disasters, including 9/11, where he was invited, alongside Cruse, by the Foreign Office to help set up a programme to support and assist families from the UK who had loved ones killed in the terrorist attacks in New York on the 11st September 2001.
To mark our special 60th anniversary, Colin reflects on his time with Cruse.
