For children and siblings in military families | Cruse Bereavement Care

It is pretty hard being young anyway and at times like this it can seem very lonely, but you are not alone and there are others who understand. Children might feel pushed out of the picture while all the focus is on their parents, or feel that they must support their parent and not add to their grief by showing their own distress. Taking the first step is hard, but now you have done it - so well done.

If you feel you'd like to help others by sharing your story, please click here to let us know by sending an email.

Hope Again is a website set up by Cruse and bereaved children and young people. Young people can post messages, poems and stories, and share experiences and feelings.

The feedback we get from these young visitors tells us that using Hope Again, and our previous website RD4U, helps them. They make comments like:

  • it is helpful to see other people's stories who are in the same position and their different ways of coping
  • this website really helped me, thank you
  • knowing that i am not alone in this really helps

There is also a page of useful links for children and young people on Hope Again.

At present there is not a specific group set up for military children who have been bereaved, but we are considering whether this might be useful. If you think you would like to be part of such a group, which could be a virtual group like facebook, then do let us know, or if you would like to help us better understand the issues faced by children and young adults from military families, or the brothers and sisters of young service personnel killed on duty, please contact us by email.

We want to help, and sharing feelings - as the users do on Hope Again - can sometimes be a great support.
