Thanksgiving Day

2019 - A Thanksgiving Day For Cruse Devon volunteers was held on Wednesday 27th November 2019 to tie in with Cruse's 60th Anniversary celebrations that have been taking place around the country.

This was held to celebrate and give thanks for all the amazing work that Devon volunteers do for Cruse.

The day started with refreshments and time to meet volunteers from other areas around Devon.  This was followed by CPD on self-care and wellbeing for volunteers to use on themselves as well as with clients.  This was provided by Emma of Bristol Shine.  After the CPD, the volunteers were then treated to a hot and cold buffet lunch, lovingly prepared by Cruse staff.  At the end of the lunch, thank you posies were handed out as special thanks to some of our volunteers, followed by special service awards.  Two of these awards were handed out to Mike C who has been a Cruse volunteer in South Devon for over 25 years and to Alison H who has been with the North Devon branch for over 13 years and has been instrumental in training new volunteers as well as providing ongoing specialist training for current volunteers.  Both have been amazing support to Cruse Devon and great mentors to many of our volunteers.

The day was a huge success, and whilst excellent feedback was given and shared with the staff, we unfortunately forgot to take any photographs!  But thanks was given, and gratefully received and enjoyed!

Emma Edwards of Shine Hypnotherapy and Yoga generously provided the CPD for our Volunteer Thanksgiving Day on 27th November 2019 and the feedback was amazing!

The Footprints Memory Walk provided walkers with the opportunity to remember loved ones whilst walking through a beautiful park.  Placing flowers onto the memory boards in the rose garden at the end of the walk.  Bereavement volunteers were on hand to support anyone who wanted to talk during this time.

After the walk, participants enjoyed food provided by Michael Howard Butchers, and Philippa May, Moretonhampstead and listened to Okehampton Excelsior Silver Band, singer/guitarist Karl Kiff and duo Stage2.

A massive thank you to all our sponsors, to all the Cruse Volunteers, and to our musicians who donated their time and skill to help make the first Cruse Devon Footprints Walk a success.  And of course, thank you to all those attended, we were pleased to hear how much it gave comfort and helped with their grieving process.
