Not so long ago children were often overlooked when a parent died, as the focus of attention was often directed to the grieving adult. The Craven and Bradford Area branch has some wonderful volunteers who have undertaken specialist training for working with children. Older children may choose to talk one-to-one, or like the younger children may use drawing, painting, toys, etc, as a way of opening up to their feelings of grief.
We have information on what you can do to help a child or young person who is grieving; how to understand the concept of loss in children and young people of different ages, and how to recognise potential complicated grief. T
Cruse offers a number of resources you can use to support the bereaved child or young person as they grieve. The menu on the left offers a number of useful articles.
We also have a special children’s website Hope Again. This site has been specially designed for young people by young people. There is a lot of helpful information, so if someone you know has died you could use this site to find out how others in your situation have gone through their own grieving process.
