Cruse Bereavement Care is delighted to announce that our new Trustee Michael Whitehouse (right) was awarded the OBE in the New Year honours list. Michael is Chief Operating Officer, National Audit Office and was honoured for services to Public Sector Audit.
Other Cruse volunteers receiving honours this year include Christopher Williams, who received the MBE, and Gill Penwell, who was awarded the BEM. Christopher has been involved with Cruse for over 20 years, and was recognised for his services to special educational needs. Gill trained as a volunteer Cruse Bereavement Support Worker ten years ago on her retirement from work as an Auxiliary Nurse. Shortly after, she took on and revitalised a Friendship Group for Weymouth Cruse.
Longstanding volunteer Stan Pearce has also been recognised. Stan received the Community Service Recognition Award from the Rotary Club of Brighton for services to Cruse Bereavement Care. The presentation was made by Mrs Juliet Smith, High Sheriff of East Sussex (picture below).
We would like to congratulate Michael, Christopher, Gill and Stan, and all our many thousands of volunteers who give up their time to help us provide support to bereaved people.
