For the first time, the Cruse Bereavement Care National Helpline will be open for normal hours across the whole Christmas period, including Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day.
Christmas can be a painful time if you've been bereaved, whether it’s your first year without a person who has died, or you lost someone long ago. The Cruse helpline will be open throughout the festive season, offering a listening ear and emotional support to anyone who has lost someone they love, or been affected by a bereavement. All calls are answered by trained Cruse volunteers. The number is 08444 779400.
Amber Dowell, Service Manager for Helplines & Online Development said: ‘The festive season can be an incredibly difficult time for bereaved people. Whether you are surrounded by the chaos of family and friends, or spending the day alone, it can be a painful and lonely time. Having someone to talk to, who won’t judge, or tell you what to do or how to feel, can really help. Last year we kept the Cruse helpline open during limited hours over Christmas. This year, thanks to the dedication of volunteers from across the country, we will be keeping the helpline open as usual throughout December and January.’
