Cruse Bereavement Care's Chief Executive Debbie Kerslake was delighted to be invited to represent Cruse at the prestigious Mind Media Awards at the British Film Institute on Monday17th November. The awards were hosted by actress, comedian, writer and journalist Helen Lederer and attended by celebrities including the former BBC Breakfast presenter Sian Williams, Radio 1's Aled and Dr Radha Modgill, and stage and screen actor Nicholas Pinnock (pictured with Debbie) The awards celebrate and reward the most powerful media portrayals and reporting of mental health problems.
Helen Lederer began the evening by sharing her personal experience of bereavement and the impact this had on her mental health.
The media play a powerful role in shaping public attitudes and tackling stigma and all the contenders demonstrated how through sensitive reporting mental health stigma and discrimination can be challenged. After the awards Debbie was able to thank Radio 1 DJ Aled for his recent reporting in relation to bereavement.
