Outcomes for bereaved people – Cruse report

A new report from Cruse Bereavement Support and the University of Birmingham shows benefits of support for bereaved people both in-person and over the telephone.

November 21, 2022

Cruse has published a report of research carried out in association with the University of Birmingham before and during the lockdown period.

Key findings:

  • Ongoing bereavement support by Cruse resulted in a significant reduction in distress for grieving clients measured using the CORE-10 questionnaire.
  • Support provided in-person and over the telephone gave very similar results. In both cases around three quarters of clients reported a decreased score (ie a reduction in distress) after support from Cruse and over a third of clients in total reported a drop of over 10 points on the CORE-10 scale.
  • Satisfaction with our service remains consistently high – the vast majority of the 233 clients (98.2%) who completed our satisfaction questionnaire rated their experience of contact with Cruse as excellent, very good or good.

Cruse will be using this research and other evidence to inform how we best support bereaved people in the future.
