Area we cover
We support residents of the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames (see map at bottom of page) and children who attend school in the borough. At the current time, due to COVID 19, this support is provided over the telephone or online via Zoom. If you are not sure if you live in the Richmond borough please type your postcode into the following website https://www.gov.uk/find-local-council to find out which borough you come under.
What we do
We offer bereavement support, advice and information to children, young people and adults. Our service is provided by trained volunteers, is confidential and free. When current government restrictions are lifted, we will restart our walk and talk group which meets once a month.
We are part of Cruse Bereavement Care, the largest national bereavement charity (Registered Charity Number 208078). The Richmond upon Thames Area is the original branch founded in 1959 and we are responsible for our own management including all financing. In the Richmond Area we have over 40 volunteers and 2 part time paid members of staff.
In 2019/20, 151 adults and 19 children and young people (aged up to 18) completed support sessions with us. We helped people who lost a child, a parent, a partner, a sibling, another relative or a friend. A small proportion of people come to us having lost someone to old age but the same amount come to us having lost someone in an accident. Most often those we support are bereaved through causes such as cancer, heart disease, dementia and suicide.
