When someone close to you dies it can often feel like your whole world has been tipped upside down. It can be easy to forget to eat, or when you do remember, the idea of cooking a big healthy meal is the last thing on your mind. If you’re struggling to get back into cooking after a bereavement, there’s now a recipe book to accompany you in the kitchen.

Recipes and stories for when you’re grieving

When we’re grieving, it’s common to avoid cooking all together and even skip meals. This can begin to have an impact on our physical health, leaving us feeling sluggish and tired – making it even harder to cope with the overwhelming feelings of grief we are experiencing.

Over the years of running bereavement support groups, Simon Beckett- Allen, Director of Rosedale Funeral Home, learnt that many people who have lost a partner find it difficult to prepare meals for just one person and struggle to find joy in food and cooking.

Simon recently published Cooking for One, a book filled with advice and anecdotes to help those who are recently bereaved to cook and learn new skills in the kitchen, and give them the confidence to cook the food they may have once shared with their loved ones or to try a new wholesome recipes.

Within this book, Andy Langford, Cruse Clinical Director, has shared his experience and memories of cooking with his Nan. We hope you find this book as useful and inspiring as many of us here at Cruse are finding it.

Profits from the book are kindly being donated to Cruse Bereavement Support.
